CASE STUDY: SHOAL LAKE

CASE STUDY: SHOAL LAKE

Off Grid Cabin – Shoal Lake, Ontario

“The home that makes you feel like you’re living outside when you’re inside”

Shoal Lake 40 First Nation is an Ojibwa or Ontario Saulteaux First Nation located in the Eastman Region of Manitoba and the Kenora District of Ontario. Better known as the rustic neighbor to the well known Lake of the Woods, Shoal Lake is more of a serene, majestic, and calm destination for many cottage goers.

We like to describe this off-grid client’s cottage as the home that makes you feel like you are outside even when you are inside. These clients have taken their time to ensure that every wall, every piece of furniture and every window was thoughtfully placed on this gorgeous island. Each window offers a picturesque view of either the waterfront or the wild foliage which could rival any painting in a museum. Not only was each piece of furniture made with love (some at the hands of previous generations) each piece was multifunctional and supported the needs of visiting family members and friends.

One thing that didn’t service their needs was their current off-grid system. To put it plainly, their system didn’t offer them the ability to live the life they wanted while at their second home. What they needed was a 12V DC system, which included a victron inverter charger, a midnight classic charger controller and of course a 12V DC battery bank made up of 6 2V rolls AGM batteries.

We worked with the client to design the system they needed to live the off-grid life of their dreams. They are now proud owners of an electric fridge, a single cup coffee maker and they no longer need a generator to run their boat winch. Simple amenities that will make life on the lake a bit more comfortable.
